I have a 12 year old Kenmore / Whirlpool side by side. I replaced the evaporator motor in July of 2013. I had no problems until then. It failed again in Januaryof 2014. My question is: is it going to fail again in 6 months and what can cause this. The refrigerator and freezer run fine and it does not seem to run excessively. Both times the motor had an open coil.

Below is the fan. Click on the picture for more views/info.
The fan has a different part number that the original part so perhaps they have improved it.
Part number: AP4364011
Part number: AP4364011

I would check that it gets 120 volts across it when running.
Low voltage can cause problems.

Use a SM999 universal motor, better price and they never fail. Comes with instructions.
