SYMPTOMS: - intermittent buzzing noise from compressor; gradually gets worse - 2 or 3 times freezer/fridge stopped cooling and got warm - freezer frosted over behind panel (frost over coils) TESTING/REPAIRS: - All diagnostics from the control panel buttons passed - defrost circuit result of "shorted" (closed) which apparently is a good thing? - Tested heating element with multimeter, still good - Melted the ice and replaced the defrost thermostat with a new one RESULTS: - Compressor still buzzing, incrementally worse - Freezer not frosting up behind panel yet but freezer and fridge still very cold (or if compressor buzzes a lot and runs hot, stop cooling) QUESTIONS: - Is this likely cause the defrost timer on the control (jazz) board, even though all the control diagnostics seem to pass? - Would the buzzing in the compressor be caused by a problem with the control, or is it likely the compressor is going bad? I've been trying to post, fix myself and study answers on here for past 3 months - not sure whether to throw in the towel and get a new fridge or try anything else. Help appreciated!!!! Thank you for your time. - Mindy

You have a hard starting compressor, probably starts better during low power use periods.

Thank you for your response. Would you recommend that I try replacing the overload relay/starting device?

It's possible you have a burnt wire someplace, or a weak klixon. You can try one and check for a burnt wire.
