Hello all. If I missed a tread where this problem has already been covered I apologize. I inherited a Kenmore top freezer which has stopped cooling on it's own. If I turn the cold control knob manually the compressor kicks on and everything gets cold as it should (I changed out the cold control hoping that was the problem- it wasn't). The defrost timer seems to be working fine. Heat exchanger is clean and there wasn't a problem with excess frost before the unit stopped working properly. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Most probable problem is a burnt wire behind the control panel.

I was hoping you could point me toward the control panel. Customer service at APP couldn't. Do you have a hunch as to which component the wire would be running from/to? I should add; this fridge sits in the garage. It was fine last winter, but could the cold be bothering a thermostat? I saw on another thread were a garage kit is available for some models. My serial # is LA13814906
Thanks again for your help. After replacing a perfectly fine cold control I'd like not to throw good $ after bad.

That's your problem, too cold in the garage and hard on the compressor.

Urgh, that sounds like a problem. It'd be better if something was broke. I'm in MD and the garage is only 40's (when I've checked). With all due respect it's hard to believe that cold is the problem b/c I'm sure I'm not the only one with a garage fridge.
Would one of those garage kits work for me? Or is this fridge hopeless?

Richappy, Thanks again for taking your time to read my dribble. Santa will surely be taking note.
I had an idea about the cold garage affecting fridge performance. Would putting a lightbulb down by the compressor help?

NO, your differential cold control will simply not work, too cold. You can buy a constant differential control that will work, part #3030-505
|
