Dryer works sometimes have to wiggle timer knob dryer has starter button and timer knob

Since wiggling the timer knob can start the unit, I would say that it needs replacing.

You could check this with a meter.
See the attachment for the wiring diagram.

Set the timer to where it will not start.
Unplug the unit.
Check that the BU/BK contacts are 0 ohms.
Use the most sensitive meter scale and short the meter leads together before measuring so you know if there is a zero offset in the meter.

If it is not 0 ohms replace the timer.
