Yes it agitates and fills at same time. I removed the red wire from the speed controller like you mentioned and now it will fill without agitating.

If you are deciding whether to buy the timer or a new washing machine, be sure to check with your utility company and see if they have any rebates for new more water efficient models.

Where my mom lives in Ohio they do offer quite a bit of rebates for buying them.

Something else if you plan to buy a new timer.

I needed a major part (expensive) not long ago and when I spoke to the customer service, I mentioned I had seen it new at another online site similar to this one and they matched the price. They won't match auction sites but will for similar sites as this one. I did have to give them the web site so they could verify that competitor's price but it took a second and they matched. I love the fast service of this place and they are so helpful that I checked here for price matching before cheating at another site!
