Each of the terminals: common, start, and run gives me 4 Ohms which would indicate a short winding, but I wonder if this would also apply to such compressor because the compressor label reads "3PH".

Although your model number is not shown in the manual it should be a close match. You will have to join the site to be able to download the manual.http://appliancejunk.com...&id=214;t=1379501815 Yur are correct that these compressors are different. There are not separate start and run windings. Your 4 ohms seems a little low. Did you short the meter leads together before starting, so you can see if there is some zero offset in the unit.
