Was having issues with the freezer frosting up. Manually defrosted the coils plugged it back in and it worked great for a couple of months. Noticed that the frig temp started dropping and then melted ice cream and defrosting of food in the freezer. It is now cool but not freezing anything. Both fans are working and condenser kicks on and sometimes makes a very loud clunking sound when it kicks off. When I advance the timer it goes through all the cycles. Pulled off the cover inside the freezer and no ice build up at all and coils seem cold but drip water off of them. I advanced the timer and the heater makes a sizzle sound but does not glow red anywhere like when it did before (but no ice to melt this time). What do you think might be my issue?

Here are your parts. You will have to find the exact unit in the Matching Model Numbers section Parts for FRS24WSG - AppliancePartsPros.comHere is aa wiring diagram. Your given model number is missing several digits at the end. The below is for a FRS24WSGW3. http://manuals.frigidaire.com/p...f/Anderson/218905000.pdfIt is now cool but not freezing anything. Both fans are working and condenser kicks on and sometimes makes a very loud clunking sound when it kicks off. The clunking when the compressor stops is an indication that it has an internal mechanical problem but I would check it's rubber mounts just to be sure they are OK before coming to that conclusion. That it clunks when shutting off seems to say that the compressor is cycling normally. Is this correct. If it is a sealed system problem the compressor will run all the time except during a defrost cycle and if it overheats (trips the thermal protect on the compressor) Pulled off the cover inside the freezer and no ice build up at all and coils seem cold but drip water off of them. This points towards a sealed system problem. Was the compressor running when you did this check. You can usually hear it but also should be able to feel it vibrating. If it is running and there is no frost forming evenly across the evaporator coils then you have a sealed system problem and this will be an expensive repair as yuou need a pro. Often it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit. I advanced the timer and the heater makes a sizzle sound but does not glow red anywhere like when it did before (but no ice to melt this time). Since the evaporator coils are not frosted/iced over and the compressor runs, you do not have a defrost problem. |
