About every 3 months the unit will just stop cooling. After I turn off the power for 10 minutes or so it recovers and is good for another 1 - 5 months. I'm not sure how to diagnose this intermittent problem. Could it be a control panel in the freezer? -- A Defrost timer somewhere?

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm not sure where all the controls are located in this unit so please reply with the location of the suspected 'bad' part if you can.

It sounds like the control panel is the problem. However, it looks like it's been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer.

Can you tell me where the control board is located? -- Is it in the freezer by the thermostat? Any one know where there might be old stock?

Hmm When I looked earlier I found a control board but I may have made a mistake and entered the wrong model number because now I just see the thermostat. Enter you model number in the parts search field to find your part.

Here are your parts.
Parts for Whirlpool KSSP42QFS05 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

See the attachment for the tech sheet on this unit.

You are looking for item 3 in the Refrigerator Control Panel section.

Looks like it comes as part of a kit so odds are that they have had problems in this area.

It is the only electronic part in the unit so is the only part that will reset with a power reset.
