Hi! I'm completely ignorant about appliance repair and am hoping and praying someone can point me to (or invent) a schematic that shows/explains the VERY detailed assembly of the chopper for my dishwasher.
When I took it out to clean the disgusting gunk out of it, I got a little too enthusiastic I guess, and it fell apart.
I think I've got it put together properly, but I don't want to put the whole thing back together and discover it doesn't work anymore.

Here's what I've got figured out maybe:

-First there's the plastic shaft with the spring
-On top of that is a metal washer
-Then the grinder/filter disk thing. One side seems to be rougher so I've got that side facing 'out' toward the blades
-Then another metal washer
- Then the blades with the flange-y things facing 'out' and stuck under some lip things on the plastic shaft

Oh yeah - my other problem is I can't get the metal cap to stay on the shaft. I read how to fix that here How To Repair Dishwashers/KitchenAid Repair/Chopper Replacement - Wikibooks, open books for an open world but I'm not sure specifically how to accomplish the melting part so I could use some advice about that as well if possible.

So that's my problem. MANY thanks in advance to anyone who can help me figure this out!

Hi Claire,

If the old chopper fell apart then the solution is to buy and install the new part.

- The chopper Part number: W10083957
Part number: W10083957
