I have read the post about the clutch being the problem with out of balance problems. I want to confirm before I started replacing parts.

After removing the front panel, I watched the machine run and the cloths constanting ended up in one place. Would rebalance the load or unbalance to the opposite side. Cloths ended up on the other side out of balance. It appeared that the one tumbler was running slow so I removed both and found a penny stuck in the tumbler. Put everything back together, tried again, same problem. To me it appears the tumblers are not working correctly and putting the clothes in one spot leaving them out of balance. Or am I totally off base and just need to replace the clutch?

Also it appears to me the tumbler are spinner backwards. Not sure how to explain but I would have thought the tumbler would lifted cloths up from 6 oclock and start the release at 12 oclock. The do not seem to agitate very well. I did confirm that they are installed correctly.

thanks,

Hello, Very likely the problem is a bad clutch but before you will order the part I would recommend to prefrom the troubleshooting as instructed in the Tech bulletin attached to the post.

If you need the correct part number, post the serial number of the washer.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Parts for Maytag FAV6800AWW Washer - AppliancePartsPros.com

I ended up purchasing a new clutch. Not the exact same as the present clutch. Called to confirm the part is the correct one and was told yes. Installed and would not turn very easily. Ran a light load and would work for the load spin part of the cycle but would not run the spin cycle and I got a UC error (will not spin).

Why would I be getting the will not spin error?

Found my old clutch. It does not have the 2 centering tabs that the new clutch has. Is that part of the new design? I purchased my washer in May 2005 so that build date was probably before the redesign of the clutch.

There are two different clutches for this model number depends on the serial number. What is the serial number of your washer?

Hi Scott,

The correct clutch for your washer is Part number: 25001169
Part number: 25001169

Which clutch did you order?

Gene.

yes that is the part I have received twice. The problem is the white tabs are riding on top of and not on the inside or outside of the what every you would can the base of the washer. This is preventing both parts of the shaft from seating fully. do not know if I am making any sense.

I compared the new clutch to the old one and the difference is the white cap with the 2 tabs that have been added to the clutch. Remove it and it looks just like the old one. And it installs easily like the old one. Can I just leave that part off?

Last post before I throw this thing away and never purchase a Maytag again.

I installed the new clutch without the "cap" and the washer is still having a balance issue. Since I could lift the top off, I watched the washing both before I installed the new clutch and after. In less than 5 rotations all the laundry was piled to one side. Manually rebalance and the same thing constantly happened. It appears to me that one of the 2 agitators will not move with a load causing the laundry to pile up. Maybe this is the same thing that is caused by the bad clutch. Any chance something is wrong with an agitator.
