Dryer quit heating. I remved the heating unit and found the coils broken. the unit was replaced. With the new heating unit in place the dryer runs for about 10 minutes then shuts off. The exhaust was into an open room and as I watched with the back of the dryer off it seemed to get hot then the heat coils turned off and the motor shut off. The High limit switch, temprature control switch and the switch on the heating unit all have continuity as does the fuse.
I'm not sure what is wrong at this point. I tested the switches with an alternate heat source and continuity was lost when they heated up and was regained when they cooled.
What could be wrong?

I am assuming that when you say shuts off you mean it totally shuts down.

Can you restart it right away after it shuts down?
If not then it is the motor overheating. It's internal thermal protect opens and then you have to wait for it to cool down so the protect will reset.

If this is the case it could be a number of things.

Try rotating the drum in the correct direction. It should turn fairly easily. You may want to try this on a couple other units to get a feel for it. Could be there is too much drag on the drum and this is causing the motor to overheat.

Try a cycle with air only. If it runs OK then odds are that for some reason the hot air is blowing back onto the motor. Check/clean the blower wheel.

Check that the motor is not clogged solid with lint.
