I have the Maytag washer MVWC6ESWW that is not agitating. Washer fills with water then stops. I can then hear the motor just hum and not agitate. I checked cap and it is good. The motor will however run to pump out the water. When the washer is in the motor hum state I can push the timer knob in just a little and the motor will start and the washer will agitate. The timer was replaced about 2 months ago. When the motor does run it smells hot. Any ideas? Motor? Timer again? Something else? Thanks

Hi. It does sounds like the bad timer. Check also the motor plugs for bad connection. The timer Part number: W10243947

Could be lid switch is bad. Move it to a different wash setting on the dial, if it still won't run the full cycle, $30 lid switch is a more likely cause.
Especially if you can use a pencil or small screwdriver to push the switch you should hear it click.

If the washer is draining it's not the lid switch.
Simon.
