My daughter may have left the door open over night and I didn't notice the alarm until around noon the next day. The temperature was 48 degrees and the food was thawing. I closed the door and hit the extreme freeze button. The temperature had risen to 52 degrees in a half hour and to 63 degrees by an hour. The Next morning the temperature is at 49 degrees, I unplugged the freezer from the wall for several hours and plugged it back in, the temperature was at 41 degrees. After several minutes of the compressor running I noticed the temperature had risen back up to 48 degrees. Please help me with repairing my freezer.

Is the evaporator fan running?
Is the compressor running when it warms up?

If the answer is yes to both the above and compressor runs all the time other than during a defrost cycle then remove the cover inside the freezer so you can inspect the evaporator coils.
If they have no frost or just frost in one area (Usually where the freon enters the coils), then you have a sealed system problem.
This will be an expensive repair as you need a pro.

Often it makes more sense to put those dollars towards a new unit.

When checking the coils make sure that the compressor has run for a couple hours, if you do it shortly after a defrost cycle you may come to the wrong conclusion.

If the coils are heavily frosted/iced over then you have a defrost problem.
