Hope someone can help...

I have a gas dryer that has been working flawless for the last 4 years. A month ago it stopped heating. I checked the thermostats and the thermal limiter. The limiter was blown.

I understand that a clogged vent is usually the problem. I checked the vent (which only about 6 feet long) and appears clear with good air volume coming through with the dryer running. I also checked the inside of the dryer including the lint chute. Everything seems really clean with just some fuzz here and there.

I figured that in theory, it should be one of the thermostats, so starting with the lowest one in the chain, I replaced the operating thermostat and installed a new thermal limiter.

It ran perfect for another three weeks, then popped the limiter again.

Today, I jumped the limiter and ran it on the medium setting. It ignites, but never seems to cycle the heat off...or maybe I didn't run it long enough for fear of over heating. But, when I run it on the low setting, it seems to cycle fine.

Ideas???

Thanks,

Todd

Hi Todd,

How long did you run it on high heat?

Did you have any load inside?

5-7 minutes for the first time on a cold dryer is not bad. Then the flame should stay on for 2-3 minutes.

Ok, if that sounds somewhat normal, then any ideas about why the thermal limiter keeps blowing??

Restricted air flow through the vent and/or bad high limit thermostat.
