My controller went black and I purchased and installed a new controller. When I turned the breaker on, the clock worked and the temp said 066 degrees. After a few seconds the controller showed -F1- error code which I could clear with CANCEL button but soon came back. Is controller bad or is something else causing it to go bad?

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for Frigidaire FCS388CESE Frg/electric Range | AppliancePartsPros.com

I would unplug the unit and reinstall the connections onto the board.
Might not hurt to clean them with electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. Just make sure all the solvent has evaporated before reinstalling.
This is a bit of a long shot, you probably have a bad control board.

I received and installed a new replacement controller and it fixed the problem. I also noticed that the clock button would not depress (could not feel the button it just felt flat) on the -F1- controller so maybe it was causing the error.

Thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause.

A good object lesson to never trust replacement parts 100%.
