If the heater stays on ALL THE TIME, The problem is either the cycling thermostat, or the heater is grounded to the heater can!!!! NOT THE HIGH LIMIT THERMOSTAT. Be careful, your looking for a FIRE if you keep it up!!!

I'm just wondering if I have a grounded out Element, my symptoms seem similar to the first post.
The very second power is connected to the Dryer the Element begins to heat up. I let it get really hot (maybe too hot) before turning off the breaker. It was clear that the Overheat Protector was not stopping it.
If this is a ground out, is there a way I can fix this, or will I have to buy a new Element?
Thanks, William

Check first to see if this is your problem. Unplug the unit. Remove both wires from the heating element. Measure the element for resistance, usually around 10 ohms. Then measure from each connector to the case/frame, both should be open (infinite ohms)
If it is grounded remove and inspect it. Sometimes the element has just sagged and is touching the case. More often it has broken or has sagged and is welded to the case which means you need a new element. |
