My maytag top loader at first developed a no/slow spin problem. Now it agitates while it spins on spin cycle. this is a 3 year old machine and does not have, (at least externally) a solenoid to shift from agitate to spin. Brand new belt.
What next?

This is somewhat of a mystery, and I do not think I can give you a definitive diagnosis.

The thrust bearing failure is a typical problem on these machines, and I would start there with a replacement.

Here is the service manual.

It will also give you some additional trouble shooting areas to check.

Good luck.
