I know that the belt needs replaced on the dryer. It was broken and laying in the bottom of the machine. After taking off the case and removing the drum, I discovered that one of the drum support rollers was laying on the bottom of the machine. Is it possible for the dryer to have been operating with only one drum support roller? Also, how can I tell if the drum support rollers need to be replaced?

Hello. My strong recommendation is to replace both rollers and also check if the roller shaft is broken or loose. In regards to your question about dryer running with out one roller the answer is most likely not. I think the roller came off the shaft while you were pulling the drum out. I also, suggest that you check the idler pulley. The roller Part number: AP4008534

I would have thought that too, however before we removed the case and drum we could see the roller on the floor of the dryer through the access panel on the back of the dryer. The shaft and washers were all in tact with the snap ring, so I am not sure that there is anything wrong with the roller. The dryer was apparantly operating this way for some time. Still think we should replace both rollers anyway?

There is no miracles. The roller came off the shaft because the opening in the center became much larger then it supposed to be. Yes, I recommend to replace both rollers.

I know it sounds wrong but the shaft was still put together inside the roller, along with the washers and snap ring. The roller did not come off of the shaft.

Hi.
In this case you should locate the nut laying somewhere at the bottom and if the shaft looks OK reattach it back. See if this will work for you.

Just figured out that the entire drum support wheel had worked its way through the metal shroud and enlarged the opening until it completely fell out and onto the floor of the dryer. As I said before, all parts of the wheel were still put together and in tact, including the nut which didn't come off the shaft. Do you think getting a larger washer that will extend over the width of the hole in the metal shroud will work in this situation?

Hi.
Here how you can attach the picture. Click on the "Quick Reply" as you would normally do to create a post. Then click on the "Go advance" right below the reply box. The advanced menue has an "Attachment" button that can be used to attach and post a picture.
Hope this helps.
