Have washer that trips motor overload. Just replaced belt and pump (I had to cut it off, and bent motor pulley out alittle). I assembled the unit and ran it through a cycle and noticed a little smoke, as well as alittle belt dust on the pump (possibly from the belt jumping around on the motor pulley). I stopped the unit, then ran it with no problems other than it sounding as though the belt is too tight, like it's binding. The take up spring looks as though it's maxed out. When I ran a load in it, it tripped out on motor overload in the spin cycle I believe. I restarted it after a while and it did it again. Finally I finished the load and unplugged it. Could it be due to a bad pulley or the wrong size belt sent? Also I couldn't find an Amana or Maytag parts manual to check the belt.:(

Hi 1Techdad

It does seem like you have a belt that is too tight. There are two belts for this model, depending upon your features (see service manual, obtain from site below)

http://www.servicematters.com/m...ary/docs/RS3100007R0.pdf

Here are the two belts

Part number: AP4034872
Part number: AP4034872

and

Part number: AP4035118
Part number: AP4035118

However, your problem may be from having damaged the pulley in removing/replacing the belt. The idler should not be so tight that the belt wears.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
