My electric dryer stopped mid cycle and will not restart. When the timer is set you can still hear it running and when the door is opened the light does not come on. I have checked the bulb and it is good. If the door switch is bad would the light remain of or come on. In other words does the door switch fail in the door open position. Would the thermal fuse affect the door light?

The first thing I would check is the thermal fuse. It is located on the heater box. If it's open - it has to be replaced together with the hi limit thermostat.

If there is nothing wrong with the thermal fuse, then check the door switch. It has three terminals: common (COM), normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC). Remove the wire from the common (COM) terminal and check continuity across the COM and the NO and the COM and the NC with the door open and closed.

The readings should be:
1. The door open : COM & NO - ∞ Ohms, COM & NC - 0 Ohms;
2. The door closed: COM & NO - 0 Ohms, COM & NC - ∞ Ohms.

- The part number for the thermal fuse kit is AP415996

- The part number for the door switch is AP311176

Good luck.
Gene.
