Machine works normally except that agitator does not move during wash and rinse cycles. Mechanism seems to jam. Spins normally, however. Would like very much to obtain a service manual for this machine.

There should be a 1/4 inch screw near the bottom of the agitator, just remove it and pull out agitator. If hub does not go back and forth in agitate, you have a bad orbital tranny, unless the belt is bad.

Once the agitator is off pull up on the transmission shaft if it will pull up the clip that holds it down is broken. On some models the clip is on the shaft just under the mounting stem on other models the clip is inside the transmission. If this is the case this page may help How To Repair Maytag Washer Agitators
