This morning I noticed a white powder on the floor at the base of my freezer in the front. It was almost like it was blown out of the 'vents' across the bottom.
I noticed the compressor and other parts were warm, but it appeared the freezer wasn't working - no noise.
I unplugged it, checked the outlet with a fan and the fan worked.
Short mini-freakout session. Prayed.
Went back to unplug the freezer and plugged it back in and it instantly started working. (thank you Jesus)
Is this powder I saw the start of a problem that I should be aware of? Or do freezers just stop working and sometimes you have to unplug them several times for them to start working again? But what is the powder from?
Thanks, P
ETA: During the half hour the freezer wasn't working, the side of the freezer that is normally warm to the touch, was cool. Still wondering if that white powder along the front side is a sign of something getting ready to break???

I do not think this white powder on the floor is somehow connected to the freezer. The freezer not working at that time could be if it was on defrost which usually lasts about 25 minutes.

Gene. I do think it was from the freezer. We are having the same problem. A white crusty type of crystal residue in front of our refrigerator bottom freezer. The residue is on the floor. Yesterday was our warmest day and there was more residue than normal. The residue sticks to the floor.

i recently purchased a new upright freezer and have the same issue. i don't know what the substance is. i did a stupid thing and tasted it. it did have a salty taste but it wasn't regular salt. it might be calcium chloride but i am not sure. where could it be coming from and does it mean there is a defect in freezer. the freezer is about 4 months old. anyone have any ideas what this could be. it is all over the bottom of freezer and all over the food. it must be being blown in. what is used now as refrigerant? is it something other than freon?

I have a similar white powder forming. The freezer is cold and the defrost melts everything and refreezes it but large amounts of powder are showing up. Like a box of soda worth. I cleaned it up and it came back and keeps growing. (NO, I didn't taste it!!) <grin> There is no ice maker Any ideas what this could be from?

i still dont know what it is but i contacted the freezer manufacturer and they sent someone who had no idea what it was and said it must have been from some food i put in freezer. absolutely not true. good news is that it seems to be working fine so far. and the white powder isn't coming out anymore.

What is the white powdered dry build up on my floor coming from under the front of my refrigerator door?
