My Maytag dryer, model MDET236AYW started making a loud squealing noise recently. So far I have replaced the 2 front glides and felt pads, the 2 rollers in the back and both felt drum seals. Well, guess what? It still squeals as bad as it did before I replaced all this stuff. I inspected the idler pulley, and I noticed it has some slack in it. Could this be the cause of this repetitive obnoxious squealing?? I have read in several other blogs about this problem, and some of them indicate that the idler pulley was indeed the culprit. I refuse to pay a repairman a bunch of cash when I am capable of doing it myself. Also, the motor was replaced about a year ago, so I am assuming it isnt the problem. HELP!!!!!!!

Yes it could be the idler. To confirm put a couple drops of oil on the shaft. If it quiets down then you know for sure.
Also check your motor bearings and the blower wheel assembly. |
