Our front loading HE3 washing machine makes a very loud noise when the fast spin cycle is in place and sounds like a jet engine taking off. It also seems to vibrate a lot more than before during the fast spin cycles. It completes the cycle and all else is fine. I wonder if it is bearings or something rubbing inappropriately. Any suggestions?

Sounds like bad tub bearings, a big repair job. If you where using the special HE degergent, check your warranty, might be covered. An overheating motor and over 3 amps current draw would confirm this, or a simple turning the spin basket and checking for "rough bearings". Contunued running will burn out the motor control board.

What do you mean cost wise by big repair job? Am I better off replacing it? We use the HE soap but don't have any extended warranty. When I spin the basket myself I don't hear anything unusual.

I checked a few of these and had trouble fealing "rough" bearings, but a current check confirmed bad bearings. For this washer, it would be a $300- $500 repair job assuming just bad bearings. Fortunately, these are built better than the Frigidairs.
