Kenmore 790.9641240, while using stove top power burner (front left) a loud pop was heard and I thought I saw a blue flash (like an arc) above the pan, the next day received a slight electrical tingle after turning plastic switch ON for right front burner, and again a loud pop (no apparent arc). Secured circuit breaker, opened the top backplane of the stove and found charring on the Simmer Select (P/N 316429301) and Cooktop Lockout (P/N 3164181__). Checked for grounds, by jumpering neutral and hot lead, measuring continuity w/multimeter across jumpered leads and return lead, and cycling stovetop switches to ON/OFF position. No measurable continuty was read. Ordered new Simmer Select and Cooktop Lockout boards. Is there anything else I should check before or after installing new boards?

Quote:Model Number: 790.9641240 That model number is incomplete or incorrect. Quote:Is there anything else I should check before installing new boards? Other than shorts to ground and/or poor connections, I can't think of anything. JMO Dan O. www.Appliance411.com The Appliance Information Site=D~~~~~~

I used the whole part number (790.9641240) I found on some documentation delivered with range. The front cover of the Kenmore Electric Range Use & Care Guide indicates model 790 with several series (i.e. 9621*, 9622* etc.) mine happens to be 9641*; hence, I probably should refer to the part number as 790.9641.
Sincerely, Gene

Quote:I used the whole [model] number (790.9641240) I found on some documentation delivered with range. Documentation rarely has the complete information. The complete information will usually only be found right on the appliance's model and serial number identification tag. It is the only reliable place to get it anyway. Possibilities for what you originally supplied include: 790.9641240 0790.96412401 790.96412403 790.96412404 790.96412406 790.96412407 790.96412408 790.96412409 790.9641240A 790.9641240B 790.9641240C 790.9641240D 790.9641240 EYou can find tips for locating the actual model and serial number identification tag on your appliances at the following link: LINK > Model Number Tag Location GuideQuote:I probably should refer to the part number as 790.9641 It is a model number not a part number and the above is even more incomplete than the first. You would be best to only use the complete information as found right on the appliance's identification tag. JFYI Dan O. www.Appliance411.com The Appliance Information Site=D~~~~~~
