My mother in law has a Maytag washer, less than 4-5yrs old, that started making a loud grinding/howling noise during a wash/spin cycle. The next load it filled, and made the noise on spin cycle. If you turn to agitate, spin, etc, the drum will spin and the loud noise begins.

I assume it is the pump. I tried pulling the belt off the motor, with no change in the noise. Is there a way to isolate the pump from the motor without removing it? The model number is SAV205DAWW, serial number of 14221499GL

check the belt also .... make sure that the noise is definitely gone as these machines are prone to problems with bearings.
