my neighbor called me into looking at his domestic fridge. "well you do commercial refrigeration, what's the difference"? sure.

here is the deal:
the coil is frozen. i caught it in the tail end of a defrost cycle. the heater is operating.

how do i force the stupid board into a defrost cycle?

also, assuming this is a "time/temp" setup, how long does the board allow a cycle before it times out?
another thing was the evap fan was cycling. not to full speed but like it had a loose connection. on-off-on-off.

normally the fan is supposed to be completely off during defrost, so i'm leaning toward the control board. i just don't want to spend xxx to find out i have to spend xxx to fix it right the second time.

back in the day, and we still do on commercial, it was the gemline "804" clock that handled defrost. life was easy then....

TIA

Sounds like the evaporator fan motor is not working properly. GE recommends to replace the fan motor together with the thermistor and the main control board.

You can troubleshoot the defrost circuit as described in one of our previous posts (reply addressed to "bohemian"): http://forum.appliancepartspros...igerator-too-warm-3.html

- The part number for the evaporator fan motor with the thermistor is AP3191003

- The part number for the main control board is AP4297272
