How in the heck do you remove the timer from the control panel?:eek:

I assume you have opened the console by removing the two screws at the outer end of it and flipping it up. Your timer knob should come off by pushing it in and turning counterclockwise. This will expose the screws that hold it on.
Good luck, let us know if this does not do it.

I've got the front panel off the washer and the knob off the front and I still can't figure out how to take the timing unit off to replace it. I know it's gotta be something totally obvious I'm missing - please help.

Without a brand and model number we have no idea.

Underneath is a clip. Slide it off the shaft. The knob is spring loaded, don't loose the spring. Pull the pointer straight up and off. Underneath are some screws. See this diagram.
