I've seen a number of different posts on this issue, and none hit my topic directly. My ice maker stopped working. In reviewing the "Modular Ice Maker & Ice Level Detector Service Sheet" I find a clue; the Icemaker Diagnostics Procedure indicates if the Icemaker's light is Blinking twice followed by a 1 second delay (which it is) that it is one of two causes: 1) the flapper door on the emitter is blocking the beam; or 2) the optics are faulty. Next steps are to disconnect the power supply (which I interpret as unplug the refrigerator) I'm instructed to "3. Slide the Icemaker Out. Remove Cover." I am unable to get the ice maker out. What is the trick? If there are additional tricks beyond what the "service sheet" says I'd appreicate any insight on those issues as well. Any and all help appreciated.

The way I read it I believe you're supposed to unplug the refrigerator.

Okay - Removed Icemaker is instructed. Put jumper in and removed; reconnected power, reinstalled, shut door for 5 seconds and red light still blinking. Repeated all of the above but this time left the jumper in place. Red light went out. Repeated all of the above to remove jumper. Red light blinking again (2 blinks followed by 1 second, repeat). I therefore conclude, someone please confirm, that the optics are bad. Parts search for optics turns up nothing. I find the part below which I believe is what I need. Will someone please confirm. Thanks. Refrigerator p.C. Board kit - Kit includes emitter and receiver icemaker control. Part Number: AP3137510 made by WHIRLPOOL

Your problem is more likely in the Optics Boards(Emitter and Receiver) which are on each side wall of the freezer(where the blinking light is is the emitter, and on the opposite wall is the receiver). When you press on the emitter flapper door to unblock the optics beam, the flashing lite should change to steadily on. If it continues blinking, the optics boards should be what should be replaced(a simple task). I have the same problem, and will be ordering them myself. About $78 or so. Bob:D

Okay - Ordered & Received the Optics board (Emitter and Receiver). Based on the instructions with that, the Optics board does not need replacing. When I went through the steps it suggested, and I press on the emitter flapper door to unblock the optics beam the flashing lite does change to a stead on. So now what? I need to return the parts i ordered and now I need help figuring out what is wrong with the ice maker. Need help. Frustration setting in, about to abandon the DIY option.

Well, I installed new optics boards, and my problem is fixed. Your only option is to replace the Ice Maker-nothing else left perse. Good Luck.

Sears Appliance Repairman just left. Problem identified. Need new MOTOR-MOD. Good news is the part is less expensive here from AppliancePartsPros.com than from Sears.

Well, hope Sears didn't gouge you too badly for the call.
Replacing the icemaker would have fixed it also, and would have included all the other icemaker parts for about $50 more. However, it's fixed;that's what matters.
