I ordered an adaptive defrost control from Parts Pros. using the sites diagrams and parts list. It is item number 13 on the controls diagram, part #MAC 61005988. This is the part I received, however, it does not exactly match the part it is replacing. The new part is a circuit board with fewer transistors and chips on it even tho the pin connector is the same. Sears has a similar diagram on their web site. It lists several different "series" for this refrigerator. I am told that mine is a series 10. Part # MAC 61005988 matches up with a series 19. The part for a series 10 is part # 61003990. I called customer service about this and they said that these defrost controls are interchangeable, but they also said to contact this forum. I don't want to plug this new part in and find out the hard way that it won't work. What is your verdict?

All different kind of the previously used adaptive defrost controls have been changed by the Maytag to the one with the part number Part number: 61005988
. Since that this is the only one adaptive defrost control available for all Maytag MZD27766GEQ models refrigerators with different serial numbers. Gene.

I have the same problem and ordered a new Adapter Defrost (MAC 61005988). I have a Maytag Wide-by-Side (model MZD2766GEB) and when I put the new part in, the fan comes on for a second and then will not come back on. I put the old part back in and the fan comes on and the fridge works (until the ice builds back up). Did I just receive a bad part?
