My Amana side by side refrigerator quit cooling and freezing. All items in the freezer were thawed out. I saw that the coils under the refrigerator were plugged with lint and dirt so I blew them out with compressed air. I left the unit off for about 3 hours (unplugged). When you plug it in the fan runs and the compressor makes a rattling noise for about 5 seconds then stops. The fan continues to run. It will cycle through attempting to run every few minutes. The model numbers listed inside the door are SQD26VW 24.7 cu ft.

Check the starter/overload relay. here- Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Test the Compressor Relay - ACME HOW TO.com

If that's not the problem it's probably the compressor.

When the refrigerator tries to run it trips out after a few seconds. If you unplug it after that happens you wait a few moments and you will hear a click. It will then try to run again. It then trips out after a few seconds. What would you suggest?
