Hi folks,
New user here. We have a Kenmore side by side fridge freezer we bought used about 3 years ago. I am not sure of the age, but I would guess its at least 8-10 years old, possibly more. The issue we are having is a non-fuctioning ice maker. This not a ice maker with access in the front of the door. The ice maker is completely inside the fridge, and the tray dumps the cubes into a bin. Well, if it worked. I don't know if it is related, but a fan on the back wall of the freezer is very loud, as if the bearing may be bad ( just a guess). I tried to gain access to to the fan, and in the midst of doing that, I decided to remove the ice maker. It was connected to a receptacle on the back wall of the freezer, with a 6 prong plug. I unplugged it, and lo-and-behold, the fan making the noise stopped. My question is, will this freezer operate normally without the ice maker plugged in? Should I be nervous that the fan stopped? The fan will kick back on if the ice maker is plugged back in? Do I need to plug this non-functioning ice maker back in to operate my freezer normally?
Thank you and sorry this post was so long.

Quick follow up. I put a thermometer in the freezer and the temp went up and up with the ice maker unplugged. Of course as soon as I plugged the ice maker back in, the noisy fan behind a shield on the back wall of the fridge started right back up, and the temp started dropping. That really stinks that I have to keep the non- functioning ice maker (that we don't even care about) plugged in for the freezer to operate. Any thoughts or opinions? They surely would be appeciated.

P.S. Guess we better start looking for a new, used fridge.
