Defrost timer failed. Old number 943435 Whirlpool. New one is a 482493. The new one has 4 spade plugs to fit the wiring harness plug. But it has a loose black wire. Do I need that? It is unclear from the instructions which spade it should go on. I read it to say 1 for two types and spade 2 for another type. My old one was a ten hour motor driven one, so I do not think I have a new style. Thx if you can help. Unit is in top right rear of fridge panel next to the cool knob. Hank

Was thanked: 4 time(s) in 4 post(s)
The installation instructions for this timer refers to the refrigerator wiring diagram which should be behind the bottom grille. The complete model number of the refrigerator might help.

Gene.

Gene, Thx. I re-read the instructions, and learned I do have a cumulative run unit. Directions could be clearer, but when I focused on wire colors, I finally got it. The diagram is missing, so I needed a little extra info. Everything is good. A contact point had come unwelded from the copper spring arm in the original gear driven switch. Hank
