I have a GE Washer that is about 4 years old. Last week, I had to replace my timer knob as the bottom became completely stripped. After I replaced it, I discovered that the washer will now no longer spin or agitate. It will fill and drain fine.

Also, when is now in operation, a strange smell starts to come from the inside of the washer. It smells like burnt plastic or wiring, but I can't seem to find the source. Ideas?

Take off the front and see if there is a problem with the belt. Also see if the transmission will turn. If it will not, then the problem is with the transmission unit and I would recommend replacement.
