My freezer was previously freezing up and getting the refig box hot. I ordered a new defrost heater with thermostat (AP2071465-GE#WR51X443) and a new defrost control timer (AP2061695-GE#WR9X489).
Afterinstalling the new defrost heaters I noticed the lower heater glows and gets extemely warm, thawing out items and melting the ice in the icemaker. The plug in on the old unit was split/cut so that the leads would match up and make a firm connection, so I did the same. ?I scares me that the unit is now overheating so badly. Could the new unit be wrong or maybe have a defective thermostat maybe. The origional part numbers on the GE owners manual were: Defrost Timer WR09X0489 Defrost Thermostat WR50X0122 Def Heater-Top WR51X0344 Def Heater-Bottom WR51x0345
Ilove the great service I recieved.. Please give me some ideas.

The part number for the defrost heater assembly AP2071465is correct. I would recommend to double check all electrical connections for possible miswiring or cross wiring. Gene.
