Our Maytag dryer motor will not start. I checked the belt and that seems fine. I removed the belt and the tumbler turns freely. I can turn the motor shaft freely. When pushing the on switch the motor hums. Is this possibly a starter switch problem?

Most likely the motor has gone bad.

- The part number for the motor is AP4290649

Here are the break down diagrams and the parts list for the Maytag dryer Model LDE9206ACE

Thanks for your help. With the price of the motor, We'll probably be shopping for a new dryer.

Do not buy any fancy computerized model. Look for a simple (knobs & buttons) Whirlpool dryer.
