My oven just recently stop heating up. I noticed that the heating element lights up, but the gas does not flow into the oven. First I checked the wiring which seems to be fine. Then I tapped on the oven safety valve which then came on and started the gas flow into the oven. I ordered a new valve and installed it which was very easy, but it does the exact same thing. If I tap on it, it comes on. Any answers before I return this part?

Easye,

You most likely have a weak glow bar igniter,

Part number: AP4096256
Part number: AP4096256

When you tap on the valve body, you're forcing the valve switch to open.
When 120 VAC is supplied to the igniter, from the control, and the glow starts, it has to draw 3.2 to 3.6 amps, and supply 3.2 to 3.6 VAC to the terminals on the bake valve in order to open the internal switch, and release the gas for ignition and burn.

You could have a weak igniter, it will glow but not produce enough amperage or voltage to open the valve.
