i took the back off from the fridge, to see where the noise was from, it seems the noise is coming from the compresser, the fan seems to be ok, the noise is like a slow grinding

If the noise is coming from the compressor then your choice is to live with this noise as long as compressor dies or buy a new refrigerator. This old fridge is not worth such expensive repair.
