I have a whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator. Since a week, it does not cool (both sides). Likely problem seems to be the start relay. I have ordered a replacement part #2154697 (combo start relay and overload). I need help in figuring out which wire (red and white) goes to which relay. Also, the start relay has four terminals marked #1-4. Which one do I use?

Part Details - WHIRLPOOL Relay, overload and cover kit, part number: 4387835

Thank you.

This photo should help out with your wire connections. Your compressor connection may be up side down from this one, but the rest is the same.

Thanks a lot, I switch the connection from pin#3 to pin#1 and the clicking sound (at least for now) has gone away and freezer seems to be cooling. I will let you know for sure in a day.
What are all the pin #'s for? What is the reason for providing 3 pins - there should be a reason. Please let me know.

Again - thanks a lot - if this works, it will save me a bunch!

You should be set. The other pins are available for use with a run capacitor should your refrigerator be equiped. Since yours only has the two wires, you should be done and cooling. Glad I could help.

Brian - thanks. Frig is cooling well. Couldn't have done without your help. The part did not come with an instruction sheet - so I was at a loss on what to do.
