I have a whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator. Since a week, it does not cool (both sides). Likely problem seems to be the start relay. I have ordered a replacement part #2154697 (combo start relay and overload). I need help in figuring out which wire (red and white) goes to which relay. Also, the start relay has four terminals marked #1-4. Which one do I use? Part Details - WHIRLPOOL Relay, overload and cover kit, part number: 4387835Thank you.

This photo should help out with your wire connections. Your compressor connection may be up side down from this one, but the rest is the same. TechnicianBrian attached the following image(s):

Thanks a lot, I switch the connection from pin#3 to pin#1 and the clicking sound (at least for now) has gone away and freezer seems to be cooling. I will let you know for sure in a day. What are all the pin #'s for? What is the reason for providing 3 pins - there should be a reason. Please let me know.
Again - thanks a lot - if this works, it will save me a bunch!

You should be set. The other pins are available for use with a run capacitor should your refrigerator be equiped. Since yours only has the two wires, you should be done and cooling. Glad I could help.

Brian - thanks. Frig is cooling well. Couldn't have done without your help. The part did not come with an instruction sheet - so I was at a loss on what to do.
