Yesterday, my twin door GE Profile Refrigerator, about two years old, began making a loud noise each time the freezer door had been opened. What the sound reminded me of is an air compressor in a mechanics garage that is building up pressure before shuttting off. Is my compressor going out, or is it somehow pressed against another part? Can I do something myself to check what is happening? What might a repair cost be if it is a compressor?

Hello Gene,

the noise was coming from under the freezer section of the two door fridge. I didn't take of the back to locate it exactly. Now here is the strange thing. Two days ago, the loud compressor noise stopped, and everything seems OK. So what was THAT?

Anyway, the good news for me is the possibility that I might have to replace the compressor seems to no longer be there - at least for now. If you have any thoughts as to what happened, and what it might mean, I'd certainly like to know.

It's very hard to say what it was at this time. If it'll happen again remove the rear cover and check the fan motor and compressor.

Gene.
