My dryer was screeching for a minute then it shut off. Now when I try to start it it just sort of hums! HELP!

Sounds like the belt has either slipped or broke.

I just replaced the belt. Any other ideas?

Why did you replace the belt?
Was it for this same problem?

Try turning the drum by hand. It should turn relatively easily.
If it does.
This may take two people.
Open the door and hold the door switch closed.
Push the start switch and rotate the drum by hand in the correct direction.
Watch your knuckles in case it starts up.

If it does start rotating the probability is high that your motor needs replacing.

It was squeeling and I found the glides were shot and the belt was a little frayed ( drum was rubbing because of this). So I replaced both, but now, just humming. I will try what you suggested and let you know the results. Thanks much.
