I have the exact same problem on my Kenmore 71282100 fridge. If I can find out what conductor or control component that delivers current to the heating elements around the freezer door I'll disable/disconnect it. I believe that there are heating elements around the lower door as well, but these do not get as burning hot as the heating elements around the freezer door. I have not measured the temperature, but it is too hot to hold my hand there. Help is appreciated.

You probably have a yoder loop around the door frame. This is running hot because your compressor is running hot due to a clogged condenser or bad compressor.

Rich, when you're good you're good. It was actually the fan that was a goner, the cooling fan for the compressor. From what I could figure out there must be some sort of thermal switch near the compressor that puts the fridge into defrost mode 'thinking' that a cooling line may be blocked and thus over heating the compressor. Once a small fan was put on the compressor to keep it cool the fridge runs like a champ. The little Panasonic fan, Part no. UDQROO3W8, is an expensive little bugger and runs more than a 100 bucks. A bit steep for a dinky $6 fan.

Back to this yoder loop you speak of. I can't stand inefficiency and would love to eliminate this circuit, but can't find what wires run there. If I could I'd put a toggle switch (properly rated, of course) in on the supply side of this circuit. Since there is a heating element I would expect that this would be protected by a fuse or other form of over current protection, or am I giving Whirpool too much credit?

Thank you for your help

This is NOT a circuit, it is tha high pressure tubing from the compressor!!
If your motor is 115V clockwise rotation at the back of the motor, you may be able to fit a 65109 motor in there about $25 IF the screw mounts are there.
Whirlpool in their infinite wisdome has usually made the mount in the fridge for such a 3 screw mount, if not, you will have to go with the $100 one. Look up this motor on line and carefully check the screw mounts to see if it will fit. I suspect you will find a way to mount this anyway, when you know you will save $75!!!
