We had a service tech look at the unit and he said the main bearing is going out. The unit squeaks loudly when spinning. The repair cost was quite large.
My question is ...Is this repair something that is fairly easy to do or is better off let in the hands of a pro. I do have mechanical abilites...but not in the appliance relm. Thanks for any info ....I do have 1 other thread on this sight(which is posted for a friend) This one is for my mother.

Maytag does not sell this bearing separate, so you have to buy the complete outer tub assembly which cost over $500 itself.

It is possible to replace just the bearing. You can find some useful information in one of our previous threads: http://forum.appliancepartspros...repair-pic-tutorial.html
