A friend gave us this fridge a month ago. We moved it 10 miles to my house, plugged it in and it worked great. I hooked up the icemaker and everything worked great ( of course i have no owners manual)

So last night I go to get something out of the fridge and ,alas, the thing completely died? No power. So I test the plug,,the plug is hot and wired correctly. I check to see down the line and I get proper continuity everywhere that I can reach with my voltmeter.

I know that this problem could have many causes so I don't expect anyone to be able to tell me what's wrong telepathically. I'm just wondering if anyone might know a few things that could cause total black out of this unit?

Thanks: Jeff

I cannot be helpful here hopefully someone else can.

I can tell you that the unit is actually an LG, but I have no way of cross-referencing Sears to LG model number.

Here is a good link with lots of LG fridge manuals perhaps you can find one that is close or the same as yours.
ApplianceDigest.com - Appliance Repair Service Manuals

You will have to join the site to download the manuals but it is a great site for appliance info and as an added bonus it is free.

Try to narrow down your downloads as much as possible as they do have a daily limit on downloads.

thanks: I did a little more research and I need to check this control panel.
I see that other customers of LG have had problems with that fuse in the control panel. The fuse is 'in' the panel, which means that, when the fuse blows in the panel, its a 200 part replacement. So this panel is my next step to check where the resistence/ power problem exixts.

Thanks for the resource for the schematic/service manual for LG. I have been trying to find a FREE good one.

BINGO!!! I fixed this thing the day after i posted this. I salvaged a couple of fuse clips from an old computer monitor. I then, soldered the clips to a couple of little DC wiring plugs i had. I then 'cut' the bad fuse off of the refridgerator panel, which allowed me to solder the clips to the wires in the panel!!!!
So,,I saved myself at least 300 bucks for a new panel and the high dollar service charge!!!

See, if we folks just check into things and do some research when these things break down,,we can sometimes get them fixed without paying an arm and a leg.

I'm telling you folks,,,if you have this fridge , this LG 3 door , for Gods sake,,,if it konks out,,pull the cover off of the back of your fridge and check this fuse...It could save you lots of money if you can fix this yourself.
