When I'm running the washer the timer will stop several times and stay on the same time for up to a half hour making the cycle take up to 2 hours. Any thoughts on where to start troubleshooting this?

I don't think there is something wrong with your dishwasher. As a part of normal operation, the dishwasher pauses 2 or 3 times during the cycle for thermal holds and advances once temperature is met. If it runs longer then usual, confirm the inlet water temperature (at the sink) is at least 120°F.
