I have read several posts with similar problems, the most likely cause being the defrost system. But after removing the bottom panel on the back of the refrigerator, I could not find the heater to test it (part #33 in the diagram). The timer appeared fine (no sizzling noise) after I rotated it until it clicked. There is some ice on the back wall of the freezer, but not much. No frost. Could you please help?

The HEATER is INSIDE the FREEZER, Remove the rear cover inside the freezer, Its the black element at the bottom of the coil.

You may want to start a new thread. If the evaporator coils are not iced up then defrost is probably not your problem.
Start another thread with the symptoms of the machine.

Here is the parts breakdown. This is for a D00 not a D01 but should be close to yours. The defrost element is Item 28 in the "Unit Parts" section.

Manually defrost the unit. This will ensure the ice that is there will have no effect on the results. Do not chip it out use a hair dryer.
Make sure the evaporator fan is running. This ensures you are in a cooling mode and not defrost.
You should hear the compressor running.
Let it run for a couple hours.
Check the evaporator coils
Are they cold?
Do they have a fairly even coating of frost?

If the evaporator just gets cold/frosts where the line comes into the coil it is an indication of a freon leak. See below

Thanks for all the posts guys. The coils were uniformly iced over. When I unplugged and tested the heater, the line was Open. So it looks like that's the problem. How hard is it to replace it?
