My dryer was making a very loud noise similar to a pair of tennis shoes clunking around in the dryer.

I replaced the two roller assemblies that were in fact worn and for good measure I installed a new drive belt. Upon reassembly of the dryer and test --I had the same awful noise. From a rotating part standpoint there are not too many things that would cause that kind of noise. Help what else could be the problem?

I checked for any loose baffles in the dryer drum and they were tight. It is like adding two and two and you keep getting five which you know is wrong.

The shafts were not replaced but they appeard to be Ok.
I did clean the drum as there was a sticky residue around the drum at the end towards the back of the dryer and it was not uniform.
The felt around the two end pieces that capture the drum was not uniform and bent over but given the wear pattern it appeared it had been that way for a long time.
I looked over the motor and did not see anything there but I may need to revisit that.

What I did not mention in my original post is that one of the umpteen times that I have reassembled the dryer the belt slipped off but I did not know that. When I ran the dryer for a test with the front door off the drum was not moving but the noise was there. I might be fixing the wrong problem.

The drum rides on slides in front. Did you check them?
