I had a repairman out to fix the dryer a couple of months ago because it would tumble but had no heat. He "fixed " it, but after he left it never seemed to be as hot and I would have to dry things twice as long as before. The guy was so arrogant I didn't want to call him back. Then a few weeks later it quit working altogether. The light comes on inside but it won't start when I push the button. From other posts it sounds like it might need a thermal fuse? We live in an old house in the country (old wiring, no breaker box) and have had some recent power outages, which I suspect contributed to the problem.

You will see that the motor does have a thermal fuse in line with it.
This is Item 7 in Section 3 of the parts.

If you do not have a meter to check it, you can short the two wires together.
Tape them up so they cannot short to the frame and give it a try. This is just a test. Do not run the unit for any length of time like this as it is a fire safety device. Replace it ASAP.

Make sure to remove both fuses that are for the dryer from the fuse box to ensure the power is off before doing any of the above.
240 volts is VERY DANGEROUS

The most common cause of poor drying and then a thermal fuse blowing is a dirty vent system. Clean and check it.

Next would be a dirty machine interior re: plugged up/dirty lint filter especially if you use liquid fabric softener it can coat the screen, clogged up blower wheel etc.
If vent is good, run the dryer with it disconnected from the vent and check that you have a strong air flow. If worried about lint in the house, take a pair of pantyhose, put one leg into the other and then attach this to the dryer exhaust.
Leave enough room behind the dryer so it can blow out like a windsock.
