I just moved into apartment with hotpoint gas range/oven. While preheating oven a fire started in the drawer below which i had stored pans and an oven mitt. should this have happened?

Hi Ashley,

The bottom drawer in your range is not a storage drawer. It is a broiler. Wherever the oven is "on" there is the same temperature in the broil drawer.
